Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars

Revolution Software's 1996 globe-trotting Templar mystery, with beautiful hand-drawn animation and a wry sense of humour.

American tourist George Stobbart is sitting at a Paris café when a clown walks in and the place explodes. Teaming up with journalist Nico Collard, he follows the trail to a conspiracy reaching back to the Knights Templar.

GOG sells the 2009 Director's Cut, and has included the original 1996 version with it.

About the game

The animation was drawn by former Don Bluth animators, and it still looks lovely today.

The story moves from Paris to Ireland, Syria, Spain and Scotland, with plenty of jokes along the way.

History

Developed by Revolution Software, directed by Charles Cecil, and published by Virgin Interactive in 1996. In North America it was called Circle of Blood.

It began a long series, and a remastered "Reforged" version came out in 2024.
