Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire

Origin's 1990 pulp adventure spin-off of Ultima: dinosaurs, jungle tribes and giant ants, built on the Ultima VI engine.

An experiment with a strange stone hurls the Avatar into Eodon, a lost valley of dinosaurs and warring tribes. To get home, unite the tribes against the Myrmidex, an army of giant ants that threatens them all.

Offered free on GOG.

About the game

It plays like Ultima VI, with a seamless world, real-time exploration and turn-based fights, but the setting is pure adventure serial.

Winning over each tribe is a quest of its own, and many of them need help before they will join you.

History

Developed by Origin Systems and released for DOS at the end of 1990, the first of two Worlds of Ultima games.

In 2012 EA and GOG made it free, together with its follow-up, Martian Dreams.
