Eye of the Beholder

Westwood's 1991 real-time dungeon crawler, which brought the feel of Dungeon Master to the Dungeons & Dragons world.

The lords of Waterdeep send your party into the sewers beneath the city to find the source of a growing evil. Once inside, the way back is sealed, and the only way out is down.

Included in Forgotten Realms: The Archives – Collection One on GOG, with Eye of the Beholder II and III.

About the game

You move square by square in real time, swinging weapons and casting spells with a click while monsters close in.

Levels are packed with secret buttons, pressure plates and illusionary walls, so careful exploring pays off.

History

Developed by Westwood Associates and published by SSI in 1991, first for DOS and then for the Amiga and other systems.

Two sequels followed: The Legend of Darkmoon later in 1991 and Assault on Myth Drannor in 1993.
