Phantasmagoria

Roberta Williams' 1995 full-motion-video horror adventure, a seven-CD game that became infamous for its violence.

Writer Adrienne Delaney and her husband buy an old mansion that once belonged to a 19th-century magician. Something evil was trapped there, and Adrienne lets it out.

Sold on GOG. Made for adults: it has graphic violence and disturbing scenes.

About the game

Real actors were filmed in front of a blue screen and placed in computer-made rooms, so you play through what looks like a horror film.

It is a simple point-and-click adventure at heart, spread across seven chapters.

History

Written and designed by Roberta Williams and released by Sierra On-Line in 1995 on seven CD-ROMs.

It was one of Sierra's best-selling games, and a sequel with a different story followed in 1996.
