Starflight

Binary Systems' 1986 space epic: hundreds of planets to land on, strange aliens to talk to, and a mystery that spans the galaxy.

Stars across the galaxy are flaring and burning their planets. Captain a starship out of Arth, recruit and train a crew, and explore, mine and trade your way towards the truth before your own sun is next.

About the game

With around 270 star systems and over 800 planets, you can go almost anywhere from the start. Land a terrain vehicle to scan life, collect minerals and dig up ruins of an ancient race.

Talking to aliens is half the game. Each race has its own personality, and how you approach them, friendly, hostile or obsequious, changes what they tell you.

History

Developed by Binary Systems over several years and published by Electronic Arts in 1986 for DOS, then ported to the Amiga, Macintosh, Mega Drive and more.

It was followed by Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula in 1989. Many later space games, including Star Control and Mass Effect, have been compared to it.
