Anacreon: Reconstruction 4021

George Moromisato's 1987 galactic strategy game, inspired by Asimov's Foundation novels and a forerunner of today's 4X space games.

The old empire has fallen. Explore the galaxy, conquer worlds and turn their resources into fleets and war machines, against human and computer rivals who want the same stars.

Free from the designer's own website, including an updated version for Windows.

About the game

It is turn-based and deep: each world has its own economy, population and specialisation, and supply lines decide wars as much as fleets do.

You can play against the computer or against other people, which made it a favourite for long multiplayer campaigns.

History

Designed by George Moromisato and published by Thinking Machine Associates in 1987 for DOS.

Version 1.3 was later released as freeware, and Moromisato went on to update it for Windows and build a new browser-based Anacreon.
