Hideo Kojima's 1987 debut, a pioneering stealth game where hiding is smarter than fighting.

Rookie agent Solid Snake is sent alone into Outer Heaven, a fortress state, to destroy Metal Gear, a walking tank that can launch nuclear weapons. His orders come from his commander, Big Boss.

Sold on Steam as part of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection.

About the game

You sneak past guards and cameras, and being spotted sounds the alarm.

Items and weapons are found in the base, and prisoners give useful tips.

History

Developed by Konami and directed by Hideo Kojima for the MSX2 in 1987, with a different NES version in 1988.

On PC it is sold with Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and Metal Gear Solid in the Master Collection.
