Thief: The Dark Project

Looking Glass Studios' 1998 first-person stealth game, where hiding in the shadows is more important than fighting.

Garrett is a master thief in the City, a dark place of steam, magic and rival factions. A job for a rich new client draws him into something far older and more dangerous than any heist.

GOG sells Thief Gold, the 1999 edition with three extra missions.

About the game

Light and sound matter: a gem on your HUD shows how visible you are, and walking on metal or tile can give you away.

Water arrows put out torches, moss arrows muffle your steps and rope arrows open new routes.

History

Developed by Looking Glass Studios and published by Eidos Interactive in 1998. Thief Gold followed in 1999.

Thief II: The Metal Age came out in 2000, and fans still make new missions today.
