About the game
You explore in first person, then switch to a top-down tactical view for battles, moving each character around the grid and choosing spells and attacks.
It follows the tabletop rules of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons closely, so characters, classes and spells feel just like the board game.
History
Developed by Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI) and released in 1988 for the Commodore 64, then DOS, Apple II and more, under an official licence from TSR.
It began the Gold Box series, which included more than a dozen games, among them Curse of the Azure Bonds and Champions of Krynn.
