Dragon Wars

Interplay's 1989 role-playing game from the team behind The Bard's Tale and Wasteland, set in a land where magic is a crime.

In the land of Dilmun, the king has outlawed magic and its users. Your party arrives and is thrown straight into the prison city of Purgatory with nothing. Escape, grow strong, and take on the dragons and tyrants behind it all.

Sold on GOG.

About the game

You start with no gear at all, so the early game is about scraping together weapons and learning who to trust.

Like Wasteland, it uses skills to solve problems in many ways and a printed paragraph book for much of its story.

History

Designed at Interplay by Rebecca Heineman and released in 1989, first for the Commodore 64 and Apple II, then for DOS and Amiga.

It was planned as The Bard's Tale IV, but Electronic Arts kept the name, so Interplay released it under a new title.
