Another World

Éric Chahi's 1991 masterpiece, made almost entirely by one person: a wordless, cinematic adventure that still looks striking today.

Young physicist Lester Chaykin is caught in a lab accident during a thunderstorm and thrown into an alien world. Captured, enslaved and hunted, he has to escape with the help of an alien prisoner who becomes his only friend.

The 20th Anniversary Edition lets you switch between new and original graphics.

About the game

There is no text and almost no interface. The story is told through animation and action, and you learn by trial, error and many quick deaths.

The flat, polygon art style was made with vector graphics, which let one person animate a whole cinematic game.

History

Created by Éric Chahi and released by Delphine Software in 1991 for the Amiga and Atari ST, then for DOS, consoles and more. In North America it was called Out of This World.

A 20th Anniversary Edition followed in 2011.
