Heretic

Raven Software's 1994 dark fantasy shooter on the Doom engine, with magic wands instead of shotguns.

The evil Serpent Rider D'Sparil has turned the elven kings into his puppets. Corvus, the last free elf, fights his way through his cities and castles to destroy him.

The original is sold on Steam. The 2025 remaster of Heretic and Hexen is a separate release.

About the game

An inventory of magic items, like the Tome of Power that supercharges your weapons, was new for a shooter.

You can look up and down and even fly with the Wings of Wrath.

History

Developed by Raven Software with id Software and released in 1994. Shadow of the Serpent Riders added two more episodes in 1996.

A remaster of Heretic and Hexen came out in 2025.
