Descent

Parallax Software's 1995 shooter in full 3D, where you fly a ship through mines with no up or down.

Robots in off-world mines run by the Post Terran Minerals corporation have been infected by a virus and turned on their human masters. Fly into each mine, destroy its reactor, rescue hostages and escape before it blows.

Sold on GOG.

About the game

You can move and turn in any direction, six degrees of freedom, which made it one of the first true 3D shooters and famously dizzying.

Each level ends with a countdown escape after the reactor is destroyed.

History

Developed by Parallax Software and published by Interplay in 1995.

Descent II followed in 1996, and the game still has an active fan community.
