Sold on GOG Shooter 1996 id Software

Quake

id Software's 1996 shooter in true 3D, with a Trent Reznor soundtrack and the birth of online deathmatch as we know it.

An enemy code-named Quake is using teleporters to send death squads into our world. Follow them back through the gates into dark, gothic dimensions and destroy them at the source.

Sold on GOG, including the original game, both 1997 expansions and the 2021 enhanced version. Made for adults: it is violent.

About the game

Everything, enemies included, is built in real 3D, which let players aim up and down freely and jump between platforms.

Online play over the internet, especially after QuakeWorld, built the first big online shooter communities and modding scenes.

History

Developed by id Software and released in 1996 for DOS.

Quake II followed in 1997, and Nightdive Studios released an enhanced version in 2021.
