System Shock

Looking Glass Technologies' 1994 sci-fi horror classic, home of SHODAN, one of gaming's most famous villains.

A hacker wakes from a coma on Citadel Station to find the crew dead or mutated. The station's AI, SHODAN, has turned against humanity, and you are the only one left to stop her.

The Enhanced Edition on GOG also includes the classic version, close to the 1994 original.

About the game

You piece together what happened from audio logs and emails left by the crew, an idea later used by BioShock and many others.

It mixes shooting, exploration, inventory management and hacking into one continuous space station.

History

Developed by Looking Glass Technologies and published by Origin Systems in 1994.

System Shock 2 followed in 1999, and Nightdive Studios released a full remake in 2023.
