Outcast

Appeal's 1999 open-world adventure from Belgium, with voxel landscapes and an orchestral score, years ahead of its time.

A US probe sent to a parallel world causes a black hole that threatens Earth. Ex-Navy SEAL Cutter Slade escorts scientists through the rift, and wakes up alone on the alien world of Adelpha, where the locals think he is their saviour.

Sold on GOG as Outcast 1.1, recompiled from the original source code for modern computers.

About the game

Adelpha is a large, open world of villages, deserts and swamps, and the Talan people have their own language, religion and daily lives.

Its voxel engine drew rolling landscapes in a way no 3D card could at the time.

History

Developed by Appeal and published by Infogrames in 1999.

The original developers released Outcast 1.1 in 2014, and a remake and a sequel followed later.
