Planescape: Torment

Black Isle Studios' 1999 role-playing game, often called the best-written game ever made. What can change the nature of a man?

You wake up on a slab in a mortuary, covered in scars and tattoos, with no memory. You cannot die, but every time you come back, something is lost. Search the strange city of Sigil for the truth about who you were.

GOG sells the 2017 Enhanced Edition by Beamdog, with modern resolutions. It plays the same story as the 1999 original.

About the game

Most problems are solved by talking, and dialogue is deep and branching, shaped by your wisdom, intelligence and choices.

Your companions, from a floating, wisecracking skull to a chaste succubus, are among the most memorable in role-playing games.

History

Developed by Black Isle Studios, led by Chris Avellone, and published by Interplay in 1999, using the Infinity Engine from Baldur's Gate.

Beamdog released the Enhanced Edition in 2017.
