Arx Fatalis

Arkane Studios' 2002 debut, an underground first-person RPG in the spirit of Ultima Underworld, where spells are drawn with the mouse.

The sun has died, and the people of Arx have moved deep underground. You wake up in a goblin prison with no memory, and soon learn that a cult is trying to summon a god of destruction.

Sold on GOG. Made for adults: it is violent.

About the game

You cast spells by drawing runes in the air, which makes magic feel physical and personal.

The world is very interactive: you can bake bread, forge weapons, stack objects and solve problems in many ways.

History

Developed by Arkane Studios in France and published by JoWooD in 2002, its first game before Dishonored and Prey.

Its source code was released in 2011, and fans built the improved Arx Libertatis engine from it.
