The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Bethesda's 2002 open-world role-playing game on the alien island of Vvardenfell, still loved for its strange, deep world.

You arrive on Vvardenfell as a nameless prisoner, released on the Emperor's orders. Soon you are caught up in an ancient prophecy, and a god-like enemy waking inside the volcano at the heart of the island.

Sold on GOG as the Game of the Year Edition, with the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions.

About the game

Giant mushrooms, silt striders and ash storms make Vvardenfell unlike any other fantasy world.

You find your way with written directions instead of quest markers, and can join guilds and great houses with their own stories.

History

Developed and published by Bethesda Softworks in 2002 for Windows and Xbox.

Oblivion followed in 2006, and fans still play Morrowind through the open-source OpenMW engine.
