Sabre Wulf

Ultimate Play the Game's 1984 jungle maze: the first adventure of Sabreman, from the studio that later became Rare.

Sabreman is lost in a huge jungle. Find the four pieces of a broken amulet to get past the guardian at the exit, while the jungle creatures, and the Sabre Wulf itself, try to stop you.

Included in the Rare Replay collection for Xbox.

About the game

The jungle is a big maze of screens packed with colourful creatures. Touching the orchids as they bloom can slow you down, speed you up or make you briefly invincible.

Like most Ultimate games it came with almost no instructions, and working out how everything fits together was half the fun.

History

Made by Tim and Chris Stamper's Ultimate Play the Game and released for the ZX Spectrum in 1984. It was sold at a higher price than most Spectrum games, and still became a big hit.

Ultimate later became Rare. Sabre Wulf is included in Rare Replay for Xbox, together with Knight Lore and Underwurlde.
