King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne

Sierra's 1985 sequel, which sent the newly crowned King Graham on a fairy-tale quest for a bride.

King Graham sees a vision of Valanice, a maiden held prisoner in a quartz tower in the land of Kolyma. To reach her, he must find three magic keys and pass through three magic doors.

Sold on GOG together with King's Quest I and III.

About the game

It plays like the first game, walking an animated hero around and typing commands, but with a bigger world and more characters drawn from fairy tales and myth, from Little Red Riding Hood to Dracula.

Some puzzles can be solved in more than one way, but a few items, used at the wrong time, can leave you stuck. Saving often was wise.

History

Designed by Roberta Williams and released by Sierra On-Line in 1985 for the IBM PC and PCjr, then for other computers.

Valanice became Graham's queen and a lead character later in the series. A fan-made remake appeared in 2002 with permission from the rights holder.
