Myst

Cyan's 1993 island mystery, the game that sold the CD-ROM drive and became the best-selling PC game of the decade.

You open a book and find yourself on Myst, a quiet island with no one on it. Explore its strange machines and the worlds hidden inside books, and learn what happened to the family who lived there.

GOG sells Myst: Masterpiece Edition, a 2000 update of the original with improved graphics and sound.

About the game

There are no enemies, no timer and almost no instructions. You click through beautiful still images and work out how everything fits together.

Many puzzles ask you to take notes, draw maps and listen carefully.

History

Created by brothers Rand and Robyn Miller at Cyan and published by Brøderbund in 1993, first for the Macintosh.

It was followed by Riven and several more sequels, and has been remade more than once.
