The Elder Scrolls: Arena

Bethesda's 1994 first step into Tamriel: the game that started the series behind Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

The imperial battlemage Jagar Tharn has imprisoned Emperor Uriel Septim and taken his place. Escape from his dungeon, travel across the whole continent of Tamriel and collect the pieces of the Staff of Chaos to free the Emperor.

Bethesda offers it free on Steam.

About the game

Tamriel is enormous, with hundreds of towns and dungeons, many of them generated by the computer. You can go almost anywhere from the start.

It began life as a gladiator game, which is where the name Arena comes from, before turning into a full role-playing game.

History

Developed and published by Bethesda Softworks in 1994 for DOS.

Bethesda first made it free for the series' 10th anniversary in 2004, and later released it free on Steam.
