PopTop Software's 2001 island-dictator sim, a city builder with a cheeky Latin music soundtrack and a lot of satire.

You are El Presidente of a small Caribbean island in the Cold War era. Build up its economy, keep the factions, the superpowers and the rebels happy, or at least quiet, and stay in power.

Sold on GOG as Tropico Reloaded, with the Paradise Island expansion and Tropico 2: Pirate Cove.

About the game

Every islander has their own needs, politics and opinions of you, and elections can go badly if you ignore them.

You can rule kindly, or rig elections and jail critics. The game lets you decide what kind of leader to be.

History

Developed by PopTop Software and published by Gathering of Developers in 2001.

The series is still going, with Tropico 6 released in 2019.
